I adore Winsor Pilates! I adore Pilates in general. As an ex-dancer gone horribly wrong (as in, 50 pounds overweight wrong), I wanted something that would challenge my muscles back into their former glory. Pilates does that for me. I feel amazing after each workout, like I've worked, but not doubled-over in pain, and sort of at peace. I also recommend the Pilates for Dummies videos, if you've never tried Pilates before, if you want to give that a go for cheap. Danie
I love the Winsor series, and I've seen a lot of improvement since starting it earlier this year. I'm much more toned, flexible, and stronger, and it's even improved my cardio workouts on the treadmill in that they are longer and more intense. I've been doing the Winsor Accelerated pilates workout for the last few months, and it might be more difficult than some other pilates tapes out there. I tried Ana Caban's Intermediate Mat Workout from the Gaiam series and I felt it was not enough of a workout for me because there wasn't enough variety, nor enough reps. You do need to be careful of your neck when starting pilates, so I recommend following Dagney on the Winsor series, the one who does the modified workout, usually with her neck on the floor. My neck was sore in the first couple of weeks of pilates, and I didn't usually follow the modified workout. I would definitely do the 20 minute tape for at least a month before starting on the accelerated tape. Hope this helps and good luck! Laurie
I looooove Winsor Pilates. For me, it was just what the doctor ordered. I has actually had a profoundly positive effect on my back problems - my visits to the chiropractor have been cut down by half since I started this. I think it's because as you do pilates, your body learns to carry your weight properly, and if you have any kind of imbalance that makes you carry your weight improperly, like I do, this makes a huge difference. I am not qualified in anyway to give medical advice, but this has worked wonders for my alignment. I do not do the "modified" versions of the exercises, even though my chiropractor said to, but then again my problems are not with my neck. After two months, my chiropractor noticed that I was carrying myself much better and asked if I had been doing abdominal training- yay! -Christy
I'm a complete novice and I'm doing OK. I'm not getting it all perfect, of course, but I'm getting better at it every time, and I can tell it's having a dramatic effect on my strength and flexibility, so I can only assume my form is at least good enough to gain benefit. Also, if you're a beginner, do the modified forms they show you until you get the hang of it. I've already moved beyond the modified forms in a few of the exercises on my video, but for most of them, I'm still working on the modified ones.
Both the Ana Cabon and the Winsor Accelerated have the same reps per movement - I own both tapes/DVDs That's what makes Pilates less boring than other workouts - you don't do lot's of reps. The movements are so effective when done correctly, you don't need to do a million reps! For learning the Pilates movements correctly, I found the Ana Cabon beginning and intermediate DVDs better than the Winsor. And the Winsor Accelerated tape is a wonderful advanced tape once you've learned the moves correctly. Cheryl
There are a few more Winsor pilates tapes that are about 20 mins long. I got these after I mastered the 55 min accelerated tape. They have one specific for buns/legs--it's the side kick series plus extra stuff that she doesn't have on the accelerated tape! It's awesome. The extra exercises Mari calls "fetal thighs." My butt is not wide anymore! Then there's an Abs. tape, an arms and upper body one, then a 20 min. accelerated tape as well. They are all great (20 min long each) and this has been the only thing to re-shape my body (I've tried it all!).
